Tony Thorpe is best known for his ground-breaking Moody Boyz output, as well as for setting up a host of independent labels including Warrior Records, BPM, Language Records/Crammed Disc, and Studio Rockers.

His productions remain at the cutting edge, including recent remixes for artists including Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Lee Scratch Perry, Roots Manuva, Fun-da-Mental, and most recently, Horace Andy, due here in 2022.

He also curated the ‘Dub Step Chronicles’ for Massive Attack’s Meltdown Festival.

After his tenure in the band 400 Blows with Andrew Beer, in 1987 Thorpe released the first UK acid compilation Acid Beats and soon after launched his acid guise The Moody Boys which released a series of forward thinking house cuts including ‘Acid Heaven/Acid Rappin’ to the groundbreaking LFO bass attack of ‘Funky Zulu’.

Thorpe became KLF’s ‘Breaks, beats and samples’ controller, and remixed both the debut cut of ‘3am Eternal’ and worked on ‘What Time is Love?’ ‘Last Train to Transcentral’ and best selling album ‘The White Room’.

As of late his attention has been focused on A&R for his Studio Rockers label. He’s back at the controls for a new album from The Last Poets. Their first album on the label ‘Understand What Black Is’ came 50 years after they first hit the scene.
